The website is dedicated to understanding a three decade long era within a centuries long conflict in Ireland. The era, known as the Troubles, was fought in the six counties of Ulster, otherwise known as Northern Ireland.

The combatants took one of two sides:

 

This is a part of the larger Anglo-Irish conflict that started in 1169. The war known as the Troubles was between 1969-1998. It ended with the signing of the Good Friday agreement in 1998.

The peace still stands as do reminders of the conflict, depicted in murals painted on the sides of buildings in Ulster.

1. Republican/Nationalist  (Catholics) who wanted to unite with the Republic of Ireland,

2. Unionist / Loyalist (Protestants) descendants of Scottish settlers and loyal to the British crown.
